Logan Morris’s impressive debut for the Brisbane Lions
It was a proud night for MacKillop and our sports department on Sunday 5 May when Logan Morris (Class of 2022) made his AFL debut for the Brisbane Lions at the GABBA. He became only the fifth student in our history to play an AFL game, a fantastic achievement.
It’s a story he’ll always remember as he only found out he was playing about ten minutes before the game after another player was injured in the warm-up.
Logan had already played a full game in their reserves team during the day, had a rather large McDonald’s meal including a frappe in between games, and had to borrow someone else’s boots which were a size too small, as he thought there would be no way he’d be playing that night.
Not the ideal preparation for your first AFL game! Despite all this, he kicked a goal and three behinds, missing two he would normally kick.
Logan’s parent had come up to watch his VFL match, so they were able to see his surprise debut.
