At MacKillop College, student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that young people learn best when they feel safe, valued, connected and supported. Inspired by the Josephite tradition and the example of Saint Mary MacKillop, we strive to create a community where every student is known, respected and encouraged to flourish as a learner and as a person.
Our approach to wellbeing recognises that education extends beyond academic achievement. We are committed to supporting the intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual and physical development of every student. Through strong relationships, positive connections and a culture of mutual respect, students are empowered to develop confidence, resilience and a strong sense of identity.
Central to our wellbeing framework is a comprehensive pastoral care structure that supports students throughout their secondary school journey. Year Level Leaders, Homeroom teachers, Directors of Student Wellbeing and specialist wellbeing staff work closely together to ensure every student receives the care, guidance and encouragement they need. Our pastoral care network is designed to foster a genuine sense of belonging and connection within the College community.
MacKillop College places a strong emphasis on proactive wellbeing education. Through our Thrive Program and a range of age-appropriate learning experiences, students develop important life skills including resilience, empathy, gratitude, mindfulness, respectful relationships, self-awareness and emotional regulation. These opportunities help students build the confidence and capability to navigate the challenges and opportunities of adolescence.
We understand that students may require additional support at different stages of their lives. Our dedicated counselling and student support services provide professional and compassionate assistance for students and families. Working collaboratively with families and external agencies where required, our wellbeing team helps students overcome challenges and access the support they need to thrive.
Student voice is an important part of wellbeing at MacKillop. We believe young people should have opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the life of the College and help shape their learning environment. Students are encouraged to share their ideas, participate in leadership opportunities and actively engage in initiatives that strengthen our community and promote positive wellbeing outcomes for all.
We also recognise the vital partnership between school and home. Families play an essential role in the wellbeing and success of their children, and we are committed to working collaboratively with parents and carers throughout each student's educational journey. Together, we create a supportive network that enables young people to feel secure, connected and capable of achieving their personal best.
At MacKillop College, wellbeing is more than a program. It is a shared commitment to nurturing each student's dignity, strengths and potential. By fostering positive relationships, supporting personal growth and celebrating the individuality of every young person, we help students develop the knowledge, confidence and character needed to lead fulfilling lives and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
