Vale Sister Helen Reed RSJ

The MacKillop College community joins with the Sisters of Saint Joseph, former colleagues, students and friends in mourning the passing of Sister Helen Reed RSJ.
Sister Helen played a significant role in the early history of MacKillop College, serving as the College’s second Principal from 1974 to 1979 during an important period of growth and development. Guided by the Josephite tradition and inspired by the example of Saint Mary MacKillop, she helped shape a culture of faith, learning and service that continues to influence our College today.
Throughout her life, Sister Helen dedicated herself to Catholic education and the formation of young people. Her ministry extended beyond MacKillop College and included leadership roles within other Catholic schools across Victoria, including serving as the founding Principal of Catholic Regional College Melton in 1980. Her contribution to Catholic education spanned decades and touched the lives of countless students, families and educators.
As a Sister of Saint Joseph, Helen embodied the values of compassion, humility and service that lie at the heart of the Josephite charism. She was part of a generation of religious women whose dedication and vision helped establish and strengthen Catholic education throughout Melbourne’s western suburbs and beyond.
Today, we give thanks for Sister Helen’s faithful service to the Church, her commitment to the education of young people and her lasting contribution to the history of MacKillop College. Her legacy lives on in the many communities she served and in the generations of students whose lives were enriched by her leadership and example.
We extend our sincere condolences to Sister Helen’s fellow Josephite Sisters, her family, friends, former colleagues and all who knew her.
Funeral arrangements are not yet known and will be shared when available.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
