MacKillop College Athletics Carnival: Records Tumble in a Day of Sporting Excellence

In perfect autumn conditions last Friday, over 800 students gathered at the Hoppers Crossing Athletics Track for the annual MacKillop College Athletics Carnival, marking a standout day in the College’s sporting calendar. The event brought together students from all year levels, showcasing both fierce competition and vibrant house spirit.

Records Smashed by Rising Stars

The Carnival was highlighted by a series of exceptional individual achievements, with three school records broken and one equalled-a testament to the depth of athletic talent at MacKillop.

  • Loula Akot matched the Year 9 Girls High Jump record with a leap of 1.55 metres, joining the College’s record books with her outstanding performance.
  • Declan Murphy soared to new heights in the Year 9 Boys High Jump, clearing 1.72 metres and breaking a record that had stood for 14 years.
  • The day’s most remarkable feats came from Year 7 student Dare Yusuf, who shattered the Boys 200m record-previously unbeaten for 28 years-and became the first Year 7 student in College history to run under 12 seconds in the 100m. Dare broke the 100m record twice on the day, first in the heats and again in the final, setting a new benchmark of 11.94 seconds that is expected to stand the test of time.

Pathway to SACCSS Representation

As the dust settles on the Carnival, staff are now working to collate and analyse results to select the team that will represent MacKillop College at the Sports Association of Catholic Co-educational Schools (SACCSS) Athletics in September. The final team list is anticipated to be announced by the end of the week, offering students the opportunity to compete at the next level.

Historic House Victory for Solomon

The Carnival also marked a milestone in the College’s house competition. Congratulations go to Solomon (Blue), who became the first of the new houses to claim an Athletics Carnival title. The Solomon House Captains will be formally presented with the trophy at the upcoming school assembly.

Final House Scores

  • 1st: Solomon (829 points)
  • 2nd: McCormack (804 points)
  • 3rd: MacDonald (783 points)
  • 4th: Cameron (599 points)
  • 5th: Tenison Woods (595 points)
  • 6th: Xavier (531 points)

The College community congratulates all students for their participation, sportsmanship, and support of their houses. The 2025 Athletics Carnival will be remembered not only for its record-breaking performances but also for the spirit and unity displayed by all involved.
