MacKillop College Hosts Third Full School Assembly of the Year

MacKillop College gathered for its third full school assembly of 2025, celebrating student achievements and fostering community spirit across a range of activities.

The assembly opened on a high note with a vibrant performance by the Senior Band, who captivated the audience with a selection of well-known modern tunes. This musical introduction set an energetic tone for the event.

Following the performance, College Captain Tristan shared an inspiring overview of MacKillop College students’ recent volunteer efforts supporting the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, highlighting the College’s ongoing commitment to service and community engagement.

A comprehensive update on various STEAM competitions was then provided, including details about the Wyndham Young Scientist Competition and the Think Science competition, showcasing the College’s dedication to academic excellence and innovation.

Sports Captains Honor and Liv delivered an extensive sports report, celebrating a range of outstanding achievements. The report featured highlights from the SACCSS eSports tournament, where several students were recognised and awarded champion medals for their performances. In the SACCSS Cross Country Championships, MacKillop College achieved impressive results, securing second place in three divisions and third place in four others. Notably, four students were individually honoured with medals for their exceptional efforts. The sports segment concluded with a recap of last Friday’s Athletics Carnival, where students competed in 114 events. The competition was fierce, with less than 50 points separating the top three houses.

The Performing Arts report promoted the highly anticipated College Musical, Chicago Teen Edition, and provided updates on the Annual Band Tour and the upcoming Ensemble Evening. The report also recognised the winner of the MacKstars competition, celebrating the diverse talents within the College community.

Arguably the highlight of the assembly was an outstanding performance by MacKstars Junior Vocal winner, Sienna Desmier who sang an amazing rendition of Halleluiah.

Creative Arts Captains Michaela and Caitlin shared insights from a recent excursion, where a group of VCE students visited the Top Arts Exhibition at the NGV in Federation Square. This experience offered students valuable exposure to outstanding works in the visual arts.

The assembly concluded with a thoughtful Captain’s address from Madiya, who encouraged all students to embrace inclusivity and help create a welcoming environment for everyone at MacKillop College. Principal Mr Chris Caldow followed with a reflection on the significance of Acknowledgment of Country ceremonies, underscoring their importance in the College’s culture. Mr Caldow also unveiled a newly designed Indigenous football jumper, created by a former MacKillop College student, which will be proudly worn in an upcoming football match.

The assembly was a testament to the vibrant and inclusive spirit of MacKillop College, celebrating achievements across academics, sports, the arts, and community service
